Archaeologist/Environmental Planner

Dokken Engineering’s Environmental Branch has an immediate opening for an Archaeologist / Environmental Planner to implement cultural resources management tasks as well as various other environmental planning tasks.  Dokken Engineering provides environmental, engineering, and construction support services for local, state, and federally funded projects including roads, bridges, highways, interchanges, trails, dams, and other public works facilities.

 

In the role of Archaeologist/Environmental Planner, the successful applicant will have the ability to conduct field assessments of cultural resources and to prepare stand-alone environmental technical reports that comply with both the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations.  Applicants should have proven abilities in cultural resource assessments and archaeological field experience, including survey and excavation.

 

Typical job responsibilities will focus on conducting literature research and record searches, coordinating Native American consultation, completing archaeological pedestrian surveys, conducting archaeological excavation (testing and data recovery), and writing technical reports and environmental documentation including, but not limited to, Caltrans-formatted cultural reports. Responsibilities also include working with clients, regulatory authorities, and subconsultants; securing environmental permits; assisting with the development and implementation of mitigation and monitoring reporting programs; writing general environmental documents; and overall transportation planning NEPA/CEQA compliance.

 

This environmental position is based in the Folsom HQ office, but periodic travel throughout the State is expected. There will be a standard 3-month probation period for the selected applicant.

 

Minimum Requirements

  •  Completed an archaeological field school

  • Enrolled in or completed a BA or BS in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field

  • 2-10 years of experience in related fieldwork, preferably in California

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Good working knowledge of federal and California environmental laws (i.e., Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, NEPA, and CEQA)

  • Previous experience with environmental studies and GPS/GIS applications

  •  Training will be provided, as needed.

  •     

Compensation:

  • $50,000 – $80,000; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience

Senior Bridge Engineer / Project Manager

In this role, you will lead, manage, and perform tasks from concept to preliminary/final design through construction, including directing and/or performing simple to complex bridge analysis and design.  You’ll also supervise and mentor a team of 2 to 5 assistant and associate design engineers.

Project Involvement:
