We are hiring associate-level Civil Engineers to support our project managers to take transportation projects from concept to construction – that is, from proposal research and development to feasibility analysis and environmental approval, and from preliminary to final design, bidding and construction support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execute engineering tasks for the planning, design and construction of transportation projects

  • Produce detailed roadway/structure designs, design calculations, technical reports, and PS&E for transportation facilities

  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, utility companies, subconsultants, resource agencies and clients involved in projects

  • Oversee project progress and budget/expenditures

  • Perform quality control and establish BMPs for work products

  • Direct and mentor engineering assistant engineers, technicians and interns in their work

  • Support marketing and proposal efforts

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field

  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain reciprocal license within 6 months.

  • 5 to 10 years of transportation project experience after graduation

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Success in delivery of PS&E bid packages for transportation projects

  • Understanding of multi-disciplinary team coordination, compilation of design and construction documents, and local agency and Caltrans design standards and practices

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and transportation design software including Civil 3D, MicroStation or AutoCAD

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to work in a team environment

senior engineer / Project Manager

Dokken Engineering is seeking a highly talented and motivated Senior Engineer/Project Manager. This individual will be an innovative, highly talented engineer who will provide business development support along with technical and management guidance in the design/engineering of roadway and bridges, highway, freeway, pedestrian/bicycle and other transportation infrastructure projects. 

The ideal candidate has been responsible for 5-10 projects that he/she personally designed or oversaw the design and provided design support through construction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for client relationship management and business development.  Lead the development and preparation of proposals and statement of qualifications

  • Provide management of staff, and training and mentoring

  • Review project financials and prepare project progress reports; ensure completion of work in accordance with contract provisions and perform other contract-related administration duties

  • Responsible for leading the planning and design effort of transportation-related projects, including preliminary engineering studies, development of PS&Es, and construction administration

  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, utility companies, subconsultants, and clients involved in projects

  • Perform quality control review for projects at key submittal milestones.

 

Requirements:

Assistant Engineer (Roadway/Structures)

At Dokken Engineering, we’re looking for the best and brightest to join our growing team and begin their engineering careers. As an Assistant Engineer, you will be working under the direction of our Associate and Senior Engineers, providing a variety of professional civil engineering tasks, in the office and in the field. You will be performing engineering work and exercising independent judgment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Determine alignment and grade of highways, roadways and other transportation facilities

  • Analyze data and balance earthwork and embankment needs

  • Survey for and determine location of transportation facilities

  • Conduct hydraulic/hydrologic analyses and determine design for culverts

  • Prepare alternative bridge and retaining wall types and make selection recommendations

  • Determine right of way needs

  • Prepare plans and cost estimates for construction or maintenance of transportation facilities

  • Inspect construction of such facilities and judge whether they meet specifications

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Engineer in Training Certification; or ability to obtain within 6 months.

  • CA driver’s license

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Possess technical knowledge of pertinent rules, standards and regulations as it relates to roadway/structures design and construction standards in the State of California

  • Gather, compile, analyze and evaluate a variety of technical reports and make sound decisions and recommendations

  • Read and interpret technical information from plats and construction plans

  • Prepare clear and concise written technical correspondence with clients, property owners, and State/local and resource agencies

  • Be able to develop plans and reports for concurrent projects

  • Operate computer using engineering design software, word processing, spreadsheet and scheduling applications

  • Work independently and as a member of a project team

ENGINEERING intern

Dokken Engineering is always looking for top talent to join our team and an internship opportunity is a great place to start. Each summer, we host anywhere from 5-10 interns, throughout our 3 offices, ranging in disciplines such as Transportation, Structural, Hydraulics, Environmental and more. At Dokken Engineering, we offer a collaborative work environment with numerous opportunities for hands‑on design and field work on a broad range of transportation projects.

As an intern, you will work under the supervision of project managers, senior engineers or other design team members. You will perform engineering tasks that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. All assignments are designed to further develop independent judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical skills

  • Assist in developing preliminary design details of work for alternative engineering studies

  • Assist in performing calculations for design and evaluations of roadways/structures

  • Support in the preparation of final design plans, special provisions and cost estimates

  • Assist with drafting assignments using CAD software

  • Assist in the preparation of exhibits as visual aids

  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documents

  • Support administrative functions

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Good standing as a Junior or Senior in an accredited university, working towards a bachelor’s degree or a Graduate student working towards a master’s degree in the field of civil, structural or transportation engineering

  • Competency using MS Office software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior engineering work or internship experience

  • EIT certification

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads or other civil drafting software
