Dokken Engineering completed preliminary engineering, obtained environmental clearance, and provided the PS&E to replace 2 structures over the Santa Ana River. The existing bridges were previoulsy evaluated for seismic adequacy and plans were developed in 1994 to retrofit one of the structures. It was later decided to replace both structures. Dokken explored options to minimize cost, traffic impacts during construction, and required environmental mitigation measures. The existing structures are separated by 50 feet, which allows for the construction of a new bridge between them. Traffic will be shifted to the new structure while 1 of the existing structures is demolished and replaced. |
Obtaining funding for the bridge replacement was a significant role Dokken Engineering undertook. Full funding was available for an exact replacement, but Dokken Engineering worked with Caltrans to increase funding for the County's preferred 3-lane bridges. The project required all NEPA and CEQA requirements to be met and coordination with the FHWA, the California Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, the City of Riverside, the Army Corps of Engineers, Caltrans, Riverside County Flood Control, The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, and various utility companies. During construction, biological inspectors are monitoring the project. |
