As a part of a seismic stability study of bridges for the City of Los Angeles, Dokken Engineering prepared the plans, specifications and estimates for the upgrading Olympic Boulevard Bridge, which was subject to collapse during a seismic event. Dokken Engineering also led the effort for the preparation of Section 106 documentation for the historic structure. Approval of the retrofit of the historic structures required the preparation of renderings to illustrate the effect of the proposed retrofit upon the structure. |
Olympic Boulevard Bridge is a historic 1,422-foot reinforced concrete T-Beam/Arch built in 1925. This structure spans the Los Angeles River and 10 sets of railroad tracks in the heart of downtown. Historical aesthetic features required any retrofit measures to be hidden from view. Extensive coordination with SHPO, Caltrans, City of Los Angeles’ Cultural Affairs Commission, utility companies, and three railroad companies was required. |
