Dokken Engineering prepared the PS&E for improvements to the interchange and Leucadia Boulevard. The project reduced congestion along Leucadia Boulevard and improved safety. Local development to the east of the interchange was contingent upon completion of the interchange.

Interchange Improvements
A special feature of the project was the creation of a northbound hook on-ramp that improved intersection spacing.

Retaining Walls
Several retaining walls were utilized to minimize right of way requirements along Leucadia Boulevard and the southbound on-ramp.

Accelerated Design Schedule
To accommodate an accelerated schedule, the PS&E package was completed and approved in 12 months. To meet the ambitious schedule, close coordination was required between Caltrans and Dokken design staff.

Accelerated Construction Schedule
Dokken provided effective construction design support, and the project proceeded smoothly to completion of an ambitious 12 month construction schedule. To aid in the fast-track schedule, a 1-week full ramp closure was provided for the contractor to complete the ramp improvements in the most efficient manner.
