Dokken Engineering prepared a detailed PS&E package for modifications to the Leidesdorff Lid Drop Structure. The project provided for vehicular traffic and a southbound Folsom Boulevard off-ramp to the light rail station at the intersection of Sutter Street and Leidesdorff Street.

The Engineers Estimate was $380,000. Due to high concrete costs at the time, bids were non-responsive. Dokken Engineering re-designed the structure to use different railing materials. The job was re-bid, and came at the estimated pricing which was within the city’s budget. Due to the quick action of Dokken Engineering, the City was able to re-bid the project without losing the construction season.

Some of the project's safety improvements include:

  • FHWA approved concrete traffic barriers on the Drop Structure
  • Raised median
  • New curb return with curb ramp at the Reading Street/Leidesdorff Street/On-ramp intersection
  • Stop signs, advance warning signs and pavement markings for the intersection
  • Signing and striping
  • Pedestrian Safe Zones and paths
