Dokken Engineering completed the Preliminary Engineering, PS&E, Environmental Review and Permit Application Process and provided engineering support during construction for the Bouquet Canyon Bridge Widening project. Dokken Engineering’s design widened the existing structure to 4 lanes of travel in each direction, added a 12-foot bike lane and a 6-foot sidewalk. Precast, pre-stressed concrete I-girders are to be used to support the widened portions to match the existing structure in-kind.

The HBRR funding covered the work required to correct the substandard portions of the bridge. Additional funding was provided by Newhall Land and Farming Company, who have an interest in the community. Concurrent with the bridge widening project, the adjacent roadway is being widened and a pedestrian trail was constructed.

As this was a public/private partnership, communication among all concerned parties was an essential element to keep the project on track. Also, coordination between several reviewing agencies and utility companies was required due to the staging and environmental constraints of working within the limits of the Santa Clara River.
