Allen Road Bridges

Dokken Engineering is currently completing the final design of the Allen Road bridges over the Kern River and the Cross Valley Canal (CVC). The project required the completion of the Section 7 consultation and full environmental permitting.

The bridge over the Kern River will be a concrete slab bridge on pre-drilled driven concrete pile extensions. The bridge type, length, and layout were selected to reduce the overall project cost by approximately 40%. The length was minimized to save construction costs so that no negative hydraulic effects were realized. The bridge over the CVC will consist of a single span concrete slab on precast prestressed concrete girders. The bridge type was selected to minimize impacts to the existing CVC and accommodate future improvements to the channel. Special foundation design was required in order to protect a large deeply buried water line in place.
