Dokken Engineering performed engineering services for the replacement design and construction of the Redhill Overcrossing, widening of the MacArthur Boulevard Undercrossing, and the addition of the SR 55/I-405 HOV Connector Overcrossing. Redhill Overcrossing provides access over I-405. The structure is a 3-span cast-in-place post-tensioned box girder 541 feet in length and 72 feet wide. The site is especially difficult to construct a structure of this size due to the 21 lanes that it must pass over. The locations of I-405, HOV lanes, HOV on/off ramps, and connector ramps from SR 55 only allow two locations to place bents. Additionally, the HOV lanes are elevated 16 feet above the surrounding I-405 lanes. |
The MacArthur Boulevard Undercrossing is a 4-span reinforced concrete box girder bridge roughly 170 feet long and 155 feet wide carrying SR 55. The widening consisted of cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete slabs on both sides of the existing structure to provide minimum vertical clearance heights over MacArthur Boulevard. The I-405/SR 55 HOV Connector is an 2,838 feet long, 59 feet wide, 13-span structures. Due to site geometry, 2 post-tensioned outrigger bents and a highly skewed bent were required to provide support for the connector over mainline I-405. Dokken Engineering also assisted in developing a repair plan for another structure on the project that had a pre-stressed tendon failure along a horizontally curved girder alignment. |
