Senior Geotechnical Engineer


Project Engineer - Transportation

Dokken Engineering is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer to support project managers through the entire design process (from proposal through PS&E and construction support) for small to large transportation projects throughout California. The ideal candidate has been responsible for 5 or more projects that he/she personally designed and supported through construction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execute engineering tasks for the planning, design and construction of transportation projects.
  • Perform/produce detailed geometric designs, design calculations, technical reports, and PS&E for transportation facilities.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, utility companies, subconsultants, and clients involved in projects.
  • Provide strong and focused support to project managers in keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform quality control for projects.
  • Mentor less experienced staff.
  • Support marketing efforts.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in engineering.
  • California PE.
  • 5 years of transportation project experience after PE.
  • Proven experience and demonstrated delivery of completed (100%) PS&E packages for transportation projects with construction value in the $2-$8 million range.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary team coordination, compilation of design and construction documents, and local agency and Caltrans design standards and practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, CADD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads and other transportation design software as appropriate.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Commitment to delivering quality work products and superior service to clients.

Description:

Dokken Engineering is seeking a geotechnical engineer to be the technical expert in the area of geotechnical engineering analysis and lead the geotechnical team in our Folsom, California office.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute geotechnical investigations for the planning, design and construction of transportation projects throughout California.
  • Lead marketing efforts by developing scope, schedule and budget for geotechnical services.
  • Make presentations at interviews, project meetings, and professional organizations.
  • Perform geotechnical investigations for complex sites involving both soil and rock materials.
  • Develop geotechnical design recommendations and lead the analysis and preparation of geotechnical design documents and technical reports.
  • Manage scope, schedule and budget for geotechnical tasks.
  • Be group leader to engineers, geologists and technicians within the geotechnical group.
  • Understanding of Caltrans standards and requirements.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in engineering and California PE required. MS and/or California GE a plus.
  • 10+ years of geotechnical experience with transportation projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, CADD, MicroStation, SlopeW/SeepW, SigmaW, LPile, APile, GRLWEAP, Driven, Group, Shaft, GINT, Cal FP, Liquefy or other software as appropriate.
  • Proven business development and project management skills.
